There the idea struck me: Alpine passes + car + driving = sounds like a great idea. Funny, i never thought about it before. And it would be a great birthday present for myself aswell.
First I thought about doing it with an RS6 Avant, my dream "every day" Audi. But after a very short time, i figured: there can only be ONE perfect Audi for that undertaking: Audi R8 V10.
I told my dear friend (Dr. Z) about that idea and, as he is as Audidriven as i am, he was more that excited about it.
The next step was to do a bit of web research about the topic: dream alpine routes. One of the first hits was the epic episode of Top Gear, where Jeremy and the boys set out to find the dream roads
This ment that the 1st Alpine passes for our route were secured.
After some more research and putting all of them on the map, we had to eliminate the ones, that were out of reach for us (we wanted to stay most of the time in Italy for this trip).
The next step was to find a suitable Audi driver's day package ("Nach oben offen"). This gave us a basecamp for the first two nights at the excellent Hotel Turm in Völs (www_hotelturm.it).
The further overnight stops will be Como, Italy and Lienz, Austria - and inbetween numerous passes and mountain roads (-:

Than the wait began...
